講題：Digital Natives and Ubiquitous Information Systems

Abstract:
Most IS research until now has focused on information systems in organizations and their use by digital immigrants. Digital immigrants are those who were not born into the digital world – they learnt to use information systems at some stage in their adult life. An underlying assumption of much of this research is that users “resist” technology or at least have some difficulty in accepting it. Digital natives, however, are those who have grown up in a world where the use of information and communications technology is pervasive and ubiquitous. These ubiquitous technologies, networks and associated systems have proliferated and have woven themselves into the very fabric of everyday life. We suggest that the rise of the digital native, along with the growth of Ubiquitous Information Systems (UIS), potentially represents a fundamental shift in our “paradigm” for IS research. We propose a research agenda that focuses on digital natives and UIS. This seminar is based on and updates a paper recently published in Information Systems Research.

Brief biography:
Michael D. Myers is Professor of Information Systems and Head of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at the University of Auckland Business School. He is ranked 8th in the world based on the number of publications in MISQ and ISR over the past 3 years (2009-2011), and 7th in the world based on the number of publications in the top eight IS journals over the same period (see http://www.vvenkatesh.com/isranking/). He won the Best Paper award (with Heinz Klein) for the most outstanding paper published in MIS Quarterly in 1999. This paper has been cited over 3000 times. He also won the Best Paper Award (with Lynda Harvey) for the best paper published in Information Technology & People in 1997. He currently serves as Senior Editor of Information & Organization, as Senior Editor of Pacific Asia Journal of the AIS, and as Editor of the AISWorld Section on Qualitative Research. He previously served as Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly from 2001-2005 and as Senior Editor of Information Systems Research from 2008-2010. He also served as President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) in 2006-2007 and as Chair of the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 8.2 from 2006-2008. Michael is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems.
