Biography:

Dr. Balaji Rajagopalan is the chief academic and administrative officer of the Sam and Irene Black School of Business with oversight of four academic departments including nine undergraduate majors, four graduate business programs, and a combined enrollment of 1300. The Black School of Business has an operational budget of over $18 million, an endowment with a market value of $32 million, an applied research center – Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE), and a center for community engagement - PartnershipErie. It is AACSB - accredited, has five endowed faculty chairs, and has been recognized by The Princeton Review and US News and World Report.

Over the last 15 years, Dr. Rajagopalan has built global academic and industry partnerships. Specifically, he has built collaborations with universities in Germany, India, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Most recently he was on a one-year assignment as the Pro Vice Chancellor and dean of Galgotias University where he helped to create a vision for the business school and university. Throughout his career, Rajagopalan has engaged with a number of Fortune 500 companies including General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, CSC, Federal Express, and Caterpillar, and has been invited for talks at universities in Europe, India, and China. Rajagopalan’s expertise is in how firms and communities leverage information technologies in their business strategies, new product development, innovative service offerings, and organizational processes. His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the Michigan Entrepreneurship Education Network, and his research has been published in journals such as Information Systems Research; IEEE Transactions on System, Man, and Cybernetics, Information Systems Journal; and European Journal of Operational Research. Rajagopalan is the senior editor of the Journal of Information Technology: Theory and Applications (a publication of the Association of Information Systems), and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Business Information Systems. He also served as the co-program chair for the Americas Conference on Information Systems in 2011, which brought scholars and practitioners from more than 20 countries.

Prior to his appointment at Penn State Behrend, he served as the associate dean, Stinson Leadership Fellow, and professor of management information systems at the Oakland University School of Business Administration and as the faculty director of Oakland University Graduate Business Programs and the Executive MBA program. While at Oakland, Rajagopalan executed an experiential learning and innovation career-enhancement program for graduate students, and under his leadership, the Executive MBA program gained the reputation as the program of choice in the region for health care management professionals.

He was recently recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by the Fogelman College of Business and Economics, University of Memphis, where he received his M.S. and Ph.D.  He also earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Andhra University (India).
