講題：Crowdsourcing Mobile Users: Why, How, and When ?

Abstract:
Crowdsensing is an emerging concept as well as a technique that researchers and scientists increasingly use to collect sensor data, behavioral traces, and/or multimedia, to gain better understandings of daily life behaviors, social relationships, and community dynamics, and urban phenomena. In addition, an increasing need for collecting annotated behavioral traces for developing better activity recognition models and for supporting interaction designers in developing context-aware applications has suggested an extension of crowdsensing—crowd-based annotating. In this talk, I will briefly talk through why this trend emerges and introduce the state of the art. Then I will present my recent two research studies in this regard, and provide my views of research opportunities and challenges in this space.

Bio:
Yung-Ju (Stanley) Chang is a Ph.D. Candidate in the School of Information at the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor. He is a former undergraduate student in the CSIE department at the National Chiao Tung University. He received his master degree with dual specializations in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Incentive-Centered Design (ICD) in 2009. He has a wide interest in HCI, with a focus on ubiquitous computing, crowdsensing, information seeking, and interaction design process. In his recent research, he explores different ways to crowdsource mobile users to reliably provide annotated data, and builds a platform aimed to enable researchers to more easily investigate daily life behaviors.
